Here are the colors of my palette: Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Orange, Phthalo Blue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cadmium Red Medium, Phthalo Green, Titanium White, Ivory Black. I recommend purchasing 1.25 oz tubes of all colors except Titanium White. Purchase a larger tube of Titanium White, as you will be using more of this color.

First, you should get into the habit of laying out your colors the same way every time you paint. This is just good practice and keeps the painting process flowing nicely. Arrange your colors along the edges of your palette leaving a lot of room in the center for mixing.

Don’t be afraid to squeeze out a good amount of paint, especially your whites. You will be more productive if you aren’t continuously stopping to squeeze out more paint.

Make certain to include all of the colors you think you will need to complete that session of painting as well. Again, this will make you more productive.

When adding paint to the palette, I have found that squeezing the paint out in long lines, as opposed to puddles, keeps my colors cleaner. When you have puddles of paint, they tend to get soiled by other colors when mixing. With a long line of paint, you can just take paint from the end as needed and not dirty the rest. Keep some rags or paper towels handy for wiping your palette knife clean.

It’s a good idea to continuously wipe your palette clean during the painting process. There is nothing more frustrating then trying to remove dried up oil paint. Keep some alcohol handy so that you can keep the mixing area of your palette clean.

After suffering with the speech impediment for eighteen years, I then, afer a lot of hard work, managed to achieve fluency. After my stammer developed, my parents decided that I needed to attend some sort of speech therapy. I attended various types of therapy, some in groups, some on a one to one basis. I was given lots of different advice about how to stop stammering. These are some of them:

slowing down the speed of my speech

costal breathing

prolonging each word or sound

taking a deep breath before I started speaking

I had started in the class which is sometimes referred to as preschool stammering. I was very young to attend stammering speech therapy and my parents were reassured that most people who stammer in childhood soon grow out of it. Well for whatever reason, I was one of those who continued well into my adult life.

I grew older and then joined the class known as childhood stammering. I continued to attend speech therapy and joining in with their speech therapy activities and their speech therapy games. This had little effect on my fluency and it has to be stated, that I really did not want to attend these anti stammering sessions. This was because I felt that the people who were trying to help me, did not really understand what I was going through, as they had never actually had a stammer themselves.

I then progressed to the class called, adult stammering. I now decided that speech therapy was not really working for me and seeked alternative stammering therapy.

I decided to try my own form of stammering self help. Even though I had a stammer, at times I could talk very well. As an example when I was drunk, I spoke superbly. This was possibly because of the additional confidence the alcohol seemed to give me.

After nearly a year I managed to overcome stammering and eradicate the stammer once and for all. As a career I now help other people to stop stammering.

You’ll need a smith machine to perform these exercises safely.

Bulging Biceps

Warm up your biceps with a few light dumbbell or barbell curls. Nothing too taxing just enough to get them nice and warm, the blood flowing. You’re going to need it.

1. Stand in the Smyth Machine.
2. Place an empty Bar at about shoulder height (you may have to vary this to ensure the maximum effect).
3. Bring your hands up to the bar as though you have just reached the top of a barbell curl. Set it an inch below.
4. Keep you back straight, your abs tense.
5. Your biceps should be close to fully flexed at this stage. Relax, we haven’t put any weight on the bar yet.
6. Load the bar with a LOT of weight. Don’t underest.mate your self. To give an example, a friend who routinely curls 6okg on a barbell recently did this for the first time, he lifted 260kg his first attempt.
7. The object of the exercise is to raise the bar a little more than an inch. That’s it. Just an inch and then hold it there for 7 seconds.
8. If you can hold it longer than 7 add more weight. Anything less, take some weight off.
9. All you are doing to raise the bar is contract your biceps as hard as you can. At no time should your elbows be directly beneath the bar.
10. Really tense your biceps and forearms for all they are worth.
11. You will feel the blood rush, the muscles scream and an intensity few will ever experience.
12. Then rest. Take a week off training the biceps.
13. Buy some new shirts.
