The most common form of lodging for people backpacking through Europe is to sleep in hostels. There are a number of reasons which make staying in hostels the best option, but the most notable is its price. When compared with hotels, hostels are hugely affordable usually running at or around $20 dollars per night. There are hostels that cost more, but in almost every city you visit you can find a hostel around this price. On top of their price, hostels are a great place to meet fellow backpackers and exchange stories, destinations, and tips for enjoying your trip.
Before you jump right into sleeping in hostels, there are a few important things to know.
1.) They may not always be the nicest place to stay.
2.) Rooms can sometimes be a bit noisy at night, so expect to be awaken once in awhile.
3.) There is an overall lack of privacy in hostels, and most make use of shared restrooms.
Besides these 3 points, hostels in Europe are a great alternative to hotels and provide budget travelers with an affordable place to sleep.
